Anna University is a technical university in Tamil Nadu, India. It was accredited with a five-star status by the UGC in 2012. The main university campus is located in Guindy, Chennai. Anna University offers 31 undergraduate, 64 post-graduate and 3 research courses in various disciplines.

Anna University conducts the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) exam for the admissions to the PG programs including M.E/M. Tech. in the various colleges of Tamil Nadu. The entrance test is usually conducted in June every year.

Candidates who have cleared the GATE exam in the same year will be exempted from appearing in the TANCET exam.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA (M. TECH.)

Candidate must have a recognized Bachelor’s degree B.E. / B. Tech. with minimum 50% marks (45 % in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying examination.
Candidate must have appeared for TANCET exam conducted by Anna University.
GATE qualified candidates in Engineering / Technology are exempted from TANCET exam though candidates who have a valid GATE score in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers should appear for TANCET also.

Application Process
ME/M.Tech
Candidates can apply online or offline, briefing for both the methods is mentioned below:

Online Method:

Candidates can visit the official website of Anna University i.e. https://www.annauniv.edu in order to download the application the form.
Candidates are then required to click on AUCET and Online application form.
Candidates will receive a unique registration number and password.
Fill in the required details in the form.
Upload a photograph and take the printout of the Application Form after submission
Send the hard copy along with the required documents and the Demand Draft.
Selection Process
ME/M.Tech
Selection is done on the basis of any one of the following:

Candidates having a valid AUCET Score are selected for admission to M. Tech/M.E.
If candidates have the required GATE score with qualifying marks for Assistant-ship in the appropriate discipline of engineering, they are admitted to M. Tech./M.E programmes.
A limited number of seats are available for the candidates (Sponsored candidates) working in government organizations, government aided learning institutes.
The selection of candidates will be through counselling, following the rules of reservation of Government of Tamil Nadu.
If two or more candidates achieve same marks in the qualifying examination, preference will be given to those candidates who have passed the all the subjects in pre final /Semester/ Year and have higher average percentage of marks up to pre final/Semester/Year of the qualifying exam.

AUCET Exam Pattern

The question paper will have three parts with Part 1 & 2 being compulsory and Part 3 as per the discipline is chosen by the candidates while filling the AUCET Application Form.
The questions will be set at the undergraduate level.
Part 1 & 2 will have 30 questions with 1 mark for each correct answer
Part 3: Candidates must answer 40 Questions in the chosen field with 1 mark for each correct answer
Negative marking of 1/3 for every wrong answer.
AUCET Counselling Process

The counseling and Admissions are held through a separate process.
Candidates who have qualified in GATE or AUCET will be required to apply separately for TANCA. (Score is valid for the current year only)
Separate Rank Lists will be prepared for the candidates on the basis of the entrance exam – GATE or AUCET
Seat allotment is on the basis of the rank of the candidate and the options entered by candidates.
